MAYOR NORA L. BARRAZA

Mayor Nora L. Barraza, a 4th generation Mesillera, has been involved in Town government for several years, serving on the Board of Trustees from 1999 through 2004 and again from 2006 through 2010, before becoming mayor in 2010. She also served on the PZHAC commission in 2005 and 2006. After 30 years of service at Las Cruces Public Schools, Mayor Barraza retired in 2003. Prior to becoming Mayor, Barraza worked at the Basilica of San Albino as the office manager for two years. Barraza is a member of various organizations and serves on several committees throughout the community and state including the South Central Regional Transit District Board of Directors, the New Mexico Municipal League, the Metropolitan Planning Organization, the J. Paul Taylor Museum Board, and the Children’s Reading Foundation Advisory Board. She has received certification from the Municipal Officials Leadership Institute, and currently serves as the chairperson for the South Central Council of Governments. Mayor Barraza’s main goals for the Town of Mesilla include looking for funding for infrastructure and capital improvements, the promotion of tourism, and increasing revenue sources for equipment and infrastructure needs. She prides herself with being strongly committed to the community and representing the Town with honor and respect. On the Mayor’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband Paul, her 2 children and 3 grandchildren.

TRUSTEE STEPHANIE JOHNSON-BURICK

Trustee Stephanie Johnson-Burick is six generations from Mesilla and is currently serving her first term as an elected official. She is the great-great-great granddaughter of Colonel Albert Jennings Fountain and her great-grandfather, Albert J. Fountain, served as the first mayor of Mesilla. Trustee Johnson-Burick received her undergraduate degrees from New Mexico State University in Criminal Justice and Psychology and has of Master of the Arts in Education. She is currently employed with Doña Ana County as a Recruiter and Trainer. She is committed to serving the residents of this community and doing so with transparency, ethics and integrity. She believes in preserving our rich legacy of history and culture to benefit future generations to come.

TRUSTEE CARLOS ARZABAL

Carlos Arzabal has served on the Mesilla Board of Trustees for numerous, previously serving on the town’s Planning & Zoning Commission. Arzabal is a school teacher and a coach, and also served four years in the United States Navy. He plans to help the Town of Mesilla by continuing to listen to the residents of Mesilla, and has actively done so by going door-to-door to listen. “My passion for Mesilla runs deep, but my passion to serve the people of Mesilla runs further,” he says. Arzabal is a historic preservation supporter, and also supports agricultural land and open space. A lifelong Mesillero, Arzabal is married to Jannelle, and has a 9-year-old son, Isaiah.
